Trinity Lutheran observes Shipwreck Sunday on Sept. 20
> On Sunday, September 20, members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, will observe Shipwreck Sunday.
On September 17, 1831, forefathers of Trinity members were on a ship called the Famous Dove which was bringing them to America from Germany. There was a terrible storm and those on board prayed and sang hymns.
They vowed that if God saved them, the 17th of each September would be kept as a holy day to the third and fourth generation. When the storm stopped, they saw that they were just off the coast of Virginia and all were safe. September 17th is still remembered and thanksgiving is given on the Sunday closest to it.
Vicar Justin Heise from Immanuel Lutheran Church, Findlay, will be the guest pastor. Worship services are at 8:00 and 10:30 AM with Sunday School and Bible Class for all ages at 9:20 AM. The church is handicapped accessible and all are welcome.
