Rose-Hulman shuts down Bluffton women 5-0

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team suffered a 5-0 Senior Day loss to Rose-Hulman on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015. The setback dropped the Beavers to 7-11 overall and 3-6 in the Heartland Conference. Rose-Hulman evened its season mark at 9-9 while finishing 5-4 in the HCAC.
The first half started saw both teams jockeying for control until the 25th minute when Hayley Gilliam converted a nice feed from Cassidy Cain for the 1-0 advantage. Gilliam added two more goals over the next 10 minutes, giving her a hat trick with over 12 minutes to play in the first stanza and doubling her output for the season. Gilliam's scores made it 3-0 at the break.
The Engineers were able to put two more shots between the pipes in the second stanza for a 5-0 shutout. Rose-Hulman out-shot the Beavers by a convincing 18-5 margin. Freshman Skylar Liming (St. Marys/Memorial) led the home squad with three shots, while Amanda Merrell (Cincinnati/Christian) and Beth Snyder (Akron, NY/Akron Central) chipped in with one shot apiece.
Bluffton honored Marisa Aguilar (Taylor, Mich./Divine Child), Sarah Lawrence (Wapakoneta) and Ashley Knippen (Wapakoneta) prior to their final contest as a part of the Senior Day festivities at the Sears Complex.
The Beavers finished off a great season under first-year Head Coach Rhonda Gottschalk despite the loss this afternoon. Way to go Beavers on an exciting year!
