Public Library's December calendar full of events
December is full of activities at the Bluffton Public Library. Here's the schedule:
Chill Zone continues on Dec. 1 and 15 at 3:30 p.m.This is a time for teens and tweens (6th grade and up) to snack, talk, play games, watch movies, and make crafts. On Dec. 15, Chill Zone will celebrate the holidays with a party during their regular meeting time.
Tot Bop, an interactive dance and exercise group for children 1-3 years, is Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. Registration spots are currently full for this program, but interested parents may add their child’s name to a waiting list.
Holiday music will be performed on Dec. 7, 14, and 21 at 6:30 p.m. Guest musicians are Wendy Chappell-Dick, Rainbow Dulcimers and Dulcimer Gatherin’, and Jim Boedicker and Ed Zickafoose. Stop by to listen, join in, and enjoy some refreshments.
Also on Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m., is a special Santa Paws Storytime. Therapy dog Teddy will join the staff as they read animal-themed holiday stories. Registration is not required for this event.
Dec. 7-12 is National Computer Science Week. The library will have an Unplugged Family Fun event on Dec. 8 from 3 to 7 p.m. The event includes activities to help families learn about the computer sciences, and the staff also encourage patrons to participate in the Hour of Code.
This is a one-hour introduction to computer science. It is designed to demystify code that is designed for youth through adults. It can be completed independently on library computers.
On Dec. 10 at 4 p.m., Teen Volunteers will present Star Wars Fun, an event for tweens and teens aged 10 and up. Enjoy Star Wars themed snacks, crafts, games and movie clips. Costumes, Wookie impersonations and cheering are encouraged.
Registration for Winter Storytime opens Dec. 21. After that date, call 419-358-5016 or email [email protected] to register. More information is available on the library website.
The Dulcimers @ the Library continue to meet Tuesdays, at 1 p.m. In December they meet on Dec 1 and 8 and will take a break for the remainder of the year.
Yoga Fit, a yoga-based exercise class, is offered at the on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. by Bluffton Family Recreation. Please contact BFR to register.
On Dec. 28 at 6 p.m., the Gluten and Food Allergy Support Group meet on the lower level of the library.
The library is closed Dec. 24, 25 and 26. It will close at 5:30 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31.
December's community display showcases Bend of the Riley Custom Pens by Lonny Kent. There are also plenty of holiday themed library materials on display throughout the holiday season.
Patrons may have noticed some major changes to the library website www.BlufftonPublicLibrary.org.
The library staff will hold an informational session on the new website features in January.
