Alumni golf outing raises $8,000 for university athletics
Bluffton University's 13th annual alumni and friends golf scramble on July 17 raised $8,000 for university athletics through TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) Bluffton.
Harrod's Colonial Golfers Club hosted the event, which drew 112 golfers from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Arizona, Colorado and Florida.
The winners of the scramble received monetary prizes. Tom Holtsberry of Harrod teamed with Bob Marshall, Randy Prince and Brad Selover, all from Elida, to take home first-place honors.
Second place went to the foursome of Rich Bindernagel (Middleburg Heights, Ohio), Jim Frisk (Wooster, Ohio), Jeff Deyling (Parma, Ohio) and Denny Thompson (Elida), while Bluffton residents Spike Berry, Tom Doty, Mike Minning and Brad Prater comprised the third-place team.
Awards were also given to Kyle Miller (Goshen, Ind.) for longest drive by a man under 60, Abe Mast (Millersburg, Ohio) for longest drive by a man 60 or over and to Sandy Doan (Lima) for longest drive by a woman. Dan Greener (Lambertville, Mich.) made the longest putt on the 18th hole, while Thompson and James Grandey (Bluffton) were closest to the pin with their tee shots on the par-3 fourth and 13th holes, respectively.
TEAM Bluffton was established in 2004 to provide financial assistance to the Bluffton athletics program. The funds, provided by alumni, parents and friends who are passionate about Bluffton athletics, assist the varsity sports program and special projects and needs identified by the athletics department.
