Charles Montgomery was a life-long farmer

Charles "Chuck" W. Montgomery, 94, died Nov. 23, 2016, at Bluffton Hospital.

He was born March 1, 1922, in Bluffton to the late Charles and Lenore (Stouffer) Montgomery. On Jan. 26, 1943, he married Marjorie Reams Montgomery who survives.

After graduating from Bluffton High School, Charles became a life-long farmer. He enjoyed hunting arrowheads, bird watching, gardening, nature, reading and studying the universe.

He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving in World War II.

Survivors also include three daughters, Jean Ann (Ralph) Nonnamaker, Bluffton, June (Darrel) Kohlhorst of Knoxville, Tenn., Janice (Don) Dunham of Arnold, Mo., a son, Charles D. (Saundra) Montgomery of Bluffton, 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a sister, Sue (Glenn) Smith of Houston, Texas.

Charles was preceded in death by a grandson, Darren Kohlhorst.

Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 26, at 2 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Bluffton.

William Herr will officiate. Burial will be in Thompson Cemetery near Bluffton where military rites will be performed. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
