Rayon J. Boutwell, 94, of Bluffton died at 2:52 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at the Hilty Memorial Home in Pandora. Mr. Boutwell was born Jan. 30, 1916, in Orange Township, Hancock County to Burley J. and Emma A. (Heldman) Boutwell. On Feb. 18, 1940, he married Alice Mae Amstutz and she preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 2000.
Surviving are five children, Lynn (Shirley) Boutwell of Traverse City, Mich.; Lonnie (Don) Nichols of Fenton, Mich.; Ronda Businger of Anderson, Ind.; Tim (Pat) Boutwell of Bluffton; Lisa (Lee) Kidd of McConnelsville; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Laura (Tom) Alborn; brother, Byron L. Boutwell and son-in-law, Mike Businger.
Mr. Boutwell was a farmer, carpenter and also worked at Ex-Cello in Bluffton and Lima. Following his retirement he worked as a groundskeeper at Crates Funeral Homes. He was a charter member of Gospel Fellowship Church, Rawson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2010 at Crates Funeral Home, Arlington with Pastor David Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Hasson Cemetery, Orange Township, Hancock County. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service (10-11 a.m.) Monday at the funeral home.
