Kindergarten storytime, solar eclipe and Bigfoot coming to the library
August is a busy month at Bluffton Public Library. Here's programming planned:
Book Lovers’ Day is on Aug. 9. Help us create a display of books you love. Let us know one or two of your favorite books prior to the day and check out the display for other community favorites.
Dulcimers @ the Library continues on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. Meetings will take place in the Richland Room in the library’s lower level.
The Adult Book Discussion group will meet on Aug. 2, and discuss We are Called to Rise by Laura McBride. This monthly discussion group is always looking for new members, but registration is requested. Call 419-358-5016 or email [email protected] for more information. Need more time to read? The group will discuss A Man Called Ove by Frederik Backman on Sept. 6.
Tutor Me Paperless will resume in August - by appointment only - on Wednesdays. During select months, and when staffing is available, Bluffton Public Library offers one-on-one, basic tech tutoring services. A member of staff may be able to help you acclimate to a new device, set up an email account, or help you access eBooks through the Ohio Digital Library. Call 419-358-5016 or email [email protected] to sign up for a one-hour slot.
The Scifi/Fantasy Writer’s Group will meet on Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. Registration is required. If you are working on writing in this genre, or are seriously interested in doing so, you are invited to join this group. For more information or to join (as space may be limited), email [email protected].
Library Playgroup is on Aug. 4, 11, and 25 at 10 a.m. this month. Make a play date and the library will provide the space and toys. (Registration is not required for these Playgroup sessions.)
Board @ the Library is on Aug. 9, 16, and 23 at 3:00 pm. Tweens, teens and adults are welcome to join as we play strategic board games in the Local History Room.
Babies Love Books is on Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. Join us for a special time of stories, movement, and song for babies and toddlers (birth-3 years) at Bluffton Public Library. Activities are chosen to promote language and motor development.
Jammin’ at the Library continues at 6 p.m. on Aug. 14 and 28. This is a song-circle style jam session to which anyone is welcome to join. Bring your instrument, voice, or listening ears! For more information, email [email protected]. The Jammin’ Instructional series will begin again in September.
Kindergarten Storytime is on Aug. 14 at 6:30 p.m. or Aug. 15 at 10 a.m. Starting school is exciting. Join us for a special Storytime to celebrate this new adventure through books, songs, and rhymes. Stories and activities will be geared for children entering Preschool or Kindergarten, but other friends and siblings are welcome to join in. Registration is not required for this one time storytime series; however, on Aug. 28, registration opens for the Fall Storytime series.
The library will close on Aug. 18 for Staff Development. The Library will reopen on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 9:30 a.m. All due dates are adjusted accordingly.
In preparation for the Aug. 21 Solar Eclipse, the library is offering two programs, which will be hosted by John George, physics teacher from Bluffton High School. Our Solar System is a program for all ages on Aug. 15; at 10:30 a.m. George will be sharing how our solar system works through a variety of fun, interactive learning experiences. You must register by Aug. 8. The Solar Eclipse happens between 1 and 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 21, hosted by Mr. George. Registration for all ages is required by Aug. 15.
SOSBI (The Southeastern Ohio Society for Bigfoot Investigation) is coming back to the library on Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. The group's visit to the library in 2015 was so well attended that we've invited them to present again. There will be time for questions at the end of the program, and donations are accepted at the door. Founder Doug Waller will also be available to sign his three books. Come hear their experiences in the woods and take a look at their display items. Please pre-register.
To celebrate Play Music on the Porch Day on Aug. 26, the Porch Sing @ the Library will be held near the library entrance starting at 10 a.m., and will last as long as folks want to stick around and sing. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on and enjoy the music.
All ages are welcome at the library’s Farmer’s Market Storytime on Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. Meet us at Bluffton’s annual Farmers’ Market in the Citizens National Bank parking lot on South Main.
Watercolor Workshop continues on Aug. 28 at 5:30 p.m. Jeanne Beutler will continue teaching on the lower level of the library. Advance registration is required (and the number of registrants is limited). Walk away with your own watercolor piece of art, complete with mat. This month’s piece is titled “Lighthouse II.” There is a $10 supply fee at the door (cash only please).
The Gluten Free and Food Allergy Support Group meets on Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Local History Room on the library’s main level.
The August library display case will show the exhibit From Swords to Plowshares: Our Process of Transformation exhibit. This exhibit features art and poetry from several local artists in response to the RAWtools event, where a blacksmith forged garden tools out of guns donated from NW Ohio.
