School board will act to place two renewal levies on May ballot
Bluffton school board will put into motion resolutions to place two renewal levies on the May 2019 ballot. The action is on Monday’s school board agenda.
Greg Denecker, Bluffton superintendent, provided The Icon will the following details on the first levy:
“The first renewal is for the Permanent Improvement one-half percent income tax first passed in May of 2007.
“It has been renewed in three year increments for the purposes of permanent improvements in the district.
“Each summer we publish where this money was spent and this tax has been critical to maintaining and updating our facilities.”
Denecker explained the second levy this way:
“The second renewal levy is the Emergency Levy, which is a fixed amount levy, that was first passed in November of 1999 at 4.9 mills.
“Currently, this levy is being collected at 4.3 mills. The renewal should be around 4.3 mills or less.”
Denecker said that the school does not have those numbers from the county auditor at this time for the renewal rate millage.
“We will have that number in December from the county, but we must pass this resolution first. Then in December board meeting the resolution will read the proper millage as well,” he said.
“This levy is used for the general operating expenses in our district and has been renewed in five year increments.”
Several additional items are on Monday’s school board agenda. The agenda is an attachment at the bottom of this story.
