Dwain Leiber came out of retirement in December
Dwain Leiber came out of retirement in December – just for the month – or maybe, just for the fun of it.
Tom Dotson, who purchased Leiber Garage, 130 Vance St., from Duane in 2017, needed experienced help this month and he knew where to turn.
During December, the garage offers an $18.95 oil change special, and, well, the phone went off the hook with appointment requests.
Ente Dwain.
So, Dwain returned and as of the morning of Dec. 26 he has already changed oil on 140 vehicles.
We photographed the guy who could probably do this blindfolded as he changed oil on Dennis Morrisons 2009 F 150 Ford. (5 W 20 oil). It was his third oil change of the day and it was only 10 a.m.
“I’ve usually changed oil on five or six vehicles a day this month,” he laughed.
The Icon didn’t ask how many oil changes Dwain’s career involves, but he told us first oil-changing experience was probably on his own 1938 Ford, which took Shell 30 weight oil.
Growing up on a 140-acre farm outside Bluffton, Dwain’s first experience in driving was in a 1941 Ford that he drove around the farm before he was old enough to get a license.
“My first car was a 1938 Ford that I bought when I was in high school,” he said. “It probably had 80,000 miles on it, and it was really worn out in the end.”
