Everett Collier will perform with the Toledo Repertoire Theatre in August Wilson’s “Fences,” given March 1 through 10, in Toledo.

The Bluffton actor portrays Troy Maxson, the leading character in the drama.

“It’s a taxing role,” said Collier. “I’m on stage most of the time and there’s a lot of dialogue.”

Collier joins other actors from Toledo in this performance.

The drama is the story of Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro baseball leagues, who now works as a garbage man in 1957 Pittsburgh.

Excluded as a black man from the major leagues during his prime, Troy’s bitterness takes its toll on his relationships with his wife and his son, who now wants his own chance to play ball.

“Fences” was adapted into an Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning film starring Denzel Washington and  Viola Davis. “Fences” is the winner of the Pulitzer Prize and seven Tony awards.
