Holiday session of youth programs, after school sport leagues starts soon at BFR

Beginning the week of Oct. 25, area youth may participate in a variety of sport and movement programs at BFR Sports & Fitness.

Children in kindergarten through grade 2 can choose from basketball (Thurs. 3:30PM) and football (Tues. 3:30PM) skills classes. Dodgeball continues on Fridays at 3:30PM for youth in kindergarten through grade 8.

Volleyball skills class is offered on Wednesdays at 3:30PM for youth in grades 4-8. Pre-schoolers can choose from Tiny Tots (Wed. and Fri. 10:00AM sessions) or All Sports (Mondays 11:00AM). Young soccer players (ages 4,5 and 6) are welcome to participate in the Soccer Fun program on Thursdays (4:30PM).

Youth Sport Skill leagues for soccer, basketball and flag football begins soon

BFR will expand the skill development programs for area youth this fall. Three programs will be offered after school featuring sport fundamentals plus scrimmage play.

Players of all abilities are invited to participate. Area college student athletes under the direction of BFR staff will lead the programs. Advance registration is requested for each program.

New this year will be a 5 week after school skill league for arena flag football for boys in grades 3-6. The Arena league will emphasize game play combined with fundamental skills. The football league will begin Tuesday, Nov. 2 and run from 4:30-5:45PM until Nov. 30. Cost is $40 ($25BFR) per player; no special equipment is needed.

The Basketball skills program will return for youth in grades 3-6. Grades 3 and 4 (both boys and girls groups) will meet on Mondays beginning November 1.

Grades 5 and 6 (boys and girls groups) will meet on Thursdays 4:30-5:45PM beginning Thursday, Nov. 4. Each program will combine ball handling drills with game -based skills. Each session will include scrimmages with extended length as the program progresses. Cost is $40 ($25BFR) per player.

U10 Soccer Intramurals will return to the BFR schedule beginning Monday, Nov. 1 and running for 5 weeks. The U10 program is a game-based league experience combining foot skills with indoor soccer game strategy. Players who are ages 7, 8 or 9 are eligible. Cost is $40 ($25BFR).

Bench press competition

BFR will host a Bench Press Competition on Saturday, Nov. 6. Lifters can compete in one of two divisions: max repetition or most repetitions.

There will be three age groups 14-18, 19-39, and 40+. Schwartz/Malone formula will be used to figure your max rep. output. A percentage scale will be used to determine your weight for most reps. Cost is only $10 per person or $40 per team.

Indoor soccer leagues forming

The first of three indoor soccer sessions is about to begin at BFR. Divisions will be offered for U8, U10, U12, U15, U18 and adults, in addition to blended divisions for girls (U8-U10 and U12-U15). A division for Coed High School teams will be offered late on Saturday nights. Also included will be a Over 30 years Adult division.

Each team will be scheduled for 5 weekly games between Nov. 7 and Dec. 11. Team fee is $375. BFR Indoor Soccer leagues are team based; an open player list is available but does not guarantee participation on a team.

Teams are welcome to participate in the Holiday Tournament to be held the week of Dec. 12. Each age division will have a set block of time to compete; see the session schedule for the days and time blocks. Cost for the tournament will be $75.00 per team; deadline to register is Dec. 1.
