Textiles in the Swiss Settlement
Keith Sommer and Rachel Friesen will present a program on the textiles used by settlers in the Bluffton-Pandora area during the period of 1833-1863, sponsored by the Swiss Community Historical Society.
The society's spring program is at 5 p.m, Sunday, April 28, in the Maple Crest Patio Room, 700 Maple Crest Court, Bluffton.
Sommer and Friesen will discuss and show linen and wool garments from the society's collection as well as flax grown, harvested and processed at the Schumacher Homestead in summer 2018 and spring 2019.
A light supper will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
The Swiss Community Historical Society owns and operates the Schumacher Homestead at 8350 Bixel Road, Bluffton. The homestead holds open houses from 1-5 p.m. on Saturdays, June through August.
