Letter: You can help migrating monarchs - here’s how
Icon viewers:
Beautiful Monarch butterflies will be migrating through Ohio over the next 6 weeks. They rely on milkweed and flowers, often found on grassy roadsides. By waiting to mow roadsides until the end of September, we can help them survive.
The Hardin County Master Gardeners held a wonderful presentation on Monarch butterflies last weekend. They told us that over the last 20 years, Monarch populations have fallen by 90 percent, due to habitat loss and extreme weather. So our actions to help them are important. The presenters suggested checking out Monarch Watch, run by the University of Kansas, to find out more.
