Lady Pirates shut out Bowling Green 1-0

BOWLING GREEN - The visiting Bluffton girls soccer team kept its long win streak alive with a 1-0 victory over Bowling Green Monday night.
With their 11th straight win, the Pirate girls improved to 12-2-1 overall.
The game was scoreless until the 65th minute. Clara Matthews scored via a Sami Scoles assist with about 15 minutes left to provide the slim margin of victory.
Bluffton managed to get off 16 shots, nine of which were on goal. The Pirate defense limited BG to just four shots, three of which were on target.
Bluffton keeper Julia Mehaffie was credited with three saves to register the shutout, while the BG goalkeeper made eight stops.
The Lady Pirates are scheduled to host non-league foe Coldwater (7-6) at Steinmetz Field Thursday, October 15 at 7 p.m.
Bluffton has not lost since August 29 at Bath, 3-0. They tied Van Buren 1-1 Sept. 3 for a 1-2-1 start, and have won every match since then.
Bluffton, seeded second in its sectional, got a first round bye and will face the opening round winner between 10th seed Ada (4-11) and fourth seed Mansfield Christian (11-2-1) Thursday, Oct. 22 in tournament play.
