Diamond Sports asks for ball diamond improvement assistance
Bluffton Diamond Sports is hoping Bluffton council will share half the costs of an improvement to one of the village park ball diamonds in 2021.
Council’s park and recreation committee, meeting on Sept. 30, was approached by the summer youth sports group to assist in the project.
The project would add roughly 100 ton of material on the playing field that faces County Line Road. The estimated total cost for the upgrade is between $10,000 and $12,000, according to Ben Stahl, council member.
He said that village public works staff would help prepare the surface for improvements and would drag the field once a week after the improvement is in place.
In other council business Jerry Cupples shared a proposed sign to be placed in the Shannon Cemetery on Jefferson Street.
The marker, paid for by the village, will include names of persons buried in the cemetery. The example below does not yet have the complete list of names of persons buried there.
The monument is intended to be placed in the cemetery this fall.
Also on Monday, council voted to lock in the cost of a 2021 Ford police cruiser at $44,515. The vehicle will eventually replace one of the current cruisers in the department.
