Former Bluffton resident, Carol Speicher, was a retired teacher
Carol Ann Kent Speicher, 83, of Marysville and formerly of Bluffton died Tuesday, March 23 at Brookdale Hospice of Marysville surrounded by her family.
She was a retired elementary school teacher in the Fairbanks, Triad, and Marysville School districts.
Along with her teaching career, she also was employed, at different times, as a librarian with the Marysville Public Library. Carol Ann was a graduate of Triad High School in the first class following the school consolidation. In 1955, she began her formal teaching education by enrolling in the Cadet Teachers Program at Bluffton College and continued on with college classes until she received her degree. After retirement, she was a member of the Union County Retired Teachers Association.
Carol Ann was a longtime member of the Marysville First United Methodist Church and was a part of the Christian Quilters of the church. Sewing was a lifelong passion of hers, and during the years she and her husband, David, lived in Bluffton, she became a quilter. Her pastimes included not only quilting but also reading and gardening.
She was born Oct. 28, 1937 in Delaware, Ohio, to the late Lelan W. and Ruth Hall Kent. She was also preceded in death by a brother Robert Kent and a grandson Josiah Speicher. She married David M. Speicher Aug. 24, 1958 at the North Lewisburg Methodist Church.
Carol Ann is survived by her husband of 62 years, David; their children, Robert J. (Janice M.) Speicher of Zanesfield, Susan K. (Joseph) Edinger of Millersburg, David G. (Tami) Speicher of Marysville, Steven C. (Susan) Speicher of Bluffton; grandchildren, David (Olivia), Joel (Kendra), and Joy Edinger, Caleb (Cindy), Lydia, Amanda, Alyssa, Lauren, Evan, Nathan, and Seth Speicher; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Janice) Kent of W. Liberty; and many friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home, Marysville. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Marysville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nathan Custer and Rev. Caleb Speicher officiating, and burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. COVID protocols will be practiced at both the funeral home and the church.
Memorial contributions may be made in Carol Ann’s memory to the David and Carol Ann Speicher Scholarship Fund at Bluffton University or to Brookdale Hospice in care of the funeral home.
