Take a Swiss Bluffton history tour this summer
The Swiss Community Historical Society (SCHS) of Bluffton and Pandora will conduct tours of the Schumacher Homestead by appointment this summer. The tours begin on Saturday, June 1.
The restored 1843 farmhouse, outbuildings, bank barn, kitchen garden, and grounds are located at 8350 Bixel Road, Bluffton.
"After a year of video tours on YouTube, we're excited to be hosting visitors at the homestead once again," said SCHS president Gary Wetherill.
"Appointments will ensure that guests and volunteer docents don't have to sit around waiting."
Docents provide background on the families that were part of the Swiss Settlement and on artifacts including locally made furniture and household items.
Tours may be arranged by emailing tour coordinator Susie Gratz at [email protected] or leaving a message at 419-358-4822.
Admission is $5 per adult and free for children 16 and under. Current members are also free. Memberships may be purchased at your visit for $30 (annual household).
