Bluffton spikers at Minster Invite

The Bluffton volleyball team competed in the rugged eight-team Minster Invitational Saturday, September 25.

The Lady Pirates won one of three matches to run their record to 10-5 this season.

Eventual tournament champion West Liberty-Salem beat the Pirates 25-15, 25-14 in their first match.

Kylie Stackhouse led the Pirates with six kills, while Ayla Grandey knocked down five kills.

Skyler Scoles dished up 17 assists while Haelyn Bischoff served two aces. 

Sophie Bricker came up with eight digs, while Kylie Monday added five digs.

Bluffton then lost to Archbishop Alter 25-14, 27-25 in their second bout.

Stackhouse topped Bluffton with nine kills. Bischoff and Grandey added two kills apiece.

Scoles passed out 14 assists. Bischoff and Bricker dealt one ace apiece.

Monday mustered seven digs, while Bricker contributed five digs.

Morgan Fruchey and Olivia Siferd each had one block.

Bluffton bounced back to win the seventh-place match over Mechanicsburg 26-24, 25-20.

Stackhouse led the hit parade with 10 kills. Scoles drilled five kills, while Grandey and Bischoff each hit four kills.

Fruchey and Monday each hit for three kills.

Scoles doled out 16 assists while Olivia Hobensack passed out seven helpers.

Bischoff served a pair of aces. Scoles, Hobensack and Avery Talavinia also added two aces apiece.

Bricker made 15 digs while Bischoff came up with 11 digs. Fruchey and Siferd each contributed a block.

WLS edged state-ranked Tri-Village 2-1 in the title match, outlasting them 27-25 in the decisive third set. North Central beat Minster to take third. 

The Pirate girls (2-1 NWC) play at state-ranked Leipsic (9-1, 4-1 NWC) in a league bout Tuesday, September 28.

Bluffton then hosts league-leading Lincolnview (8-3, 3-0 NWC)Thursday, Sept. 30.
