Beavers down Earlham 2-0 in 3rd straight HCAC win
The Bluffton University men's soccer team notched a second straight shutout in a 2-0 victory on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021. Bluffton improved to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the Heartland Conference, while Earlham stayed winless at 0-12 and 0-5 in the HCAC.
Bluffton's two goals were separated by less than two minutes as the Beavers went up 1-0 with 34 ticks remaining in the first half. The second period goal came just 1:10 into period two. Junior stalwart Maxwell Kennedy (Strongsville) served up Elijah Zimmerman (Archbold) for his eighth tally of the season just before halftime and Elijah Grieser (Wauseon/Pettisville) connected with Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) for his team-leading 10th goal of the season about 20 minutes of real time later!
Bluffton finished with a 19-16 edge in total shots, including 9-6 on frame. The home team was whistled for five more fouls (9-4), but it also forced seven of the nine corner kicks on Wednesday afternoon.
Zimmerman put three of his team-best six shots on frame. Grieser chipped in with three attempts, including one on goal. Bluffton welcomed back Taynor who added two shots and a goal. Angel Velasco-Urbina (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) got it done with six saves and his third shutout of the season.
The Beavers will be back at the Sears Complex for Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 17, when they welcome Anderson University for a 3:30 p.m. showdown with the Ravens.
