Explosion on SR 103 destroys home; two bodies reported

At approximately 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, an explosion shook the Bluffton area. Responders including Bluffton Fire and EMS were on the scene, where photos show the home at 2275 SR 103 was totally destroyed.

The Ohio Fire Marshal's office has issued the following information:

"Cause is under investigation and investigator cannot eliminate propane gas leak as cause at this time. No evidence or indication of criminal activity.

"Explosion with ensuing fire occurred at 1756 hours in single family residential home occupied by adult male and adult female.  An adult male and female were found deceased in the debris but identity pending from Hancock Coroner Dr. Mark Fox.  Both transported to Lucas County Coroners Office for autopsy."

Bluffton Fire Chief Jon Kinn has issued the following statement:

"The Bluffton Fire Department responded to a report of a house explosion at 2275 State Route 103 on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Upon arrival the house was fully engulfed and firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.

"Assisting at the scene were the Southwestern Hancock Joint Fire District, the State Fire Marshals Office, Bluffton EMS and Hanco EMS. Further details will be released as they come available."
