BHS girls basketball notches home win vs. T-Birds

The Bluffton High School girls basketball squad defeated visiting local rival Lima Central Catholic Tuesday night 47-40 in non-league action to keep its record unblemished.
The Pirates improved to 3-0 with the victory, while LCC fell to 1-2.
Senior point guard Sami Scoles poured in 22 points to pace the victors. She netted 11 points in each half. Sophomore post Ayla Grandey added 11 markers.
T-Bird Olivia Stolly tallied 19 markers to surpass the 1,000-point career barrier.
Bluffton trailed 12-9 after the first period, but rallied to grab a 24-19 edge at halftime. Scoles tallied seven points and Grandey added six in the key 15-7 Pirate second stanza.
The hosts outscored LCC 23-21 after intermission to hold onto the lead garnered by the big second quarter.
The Pirates canned 19 baskets. They sank 17 two-point shots and splashed two shots from beyond the arc. Bluffton converted seven of 12 charity stripe tries (58 percent).
LCC made 11 two-point field goals, and drilled three triples for 14 total baskets. The Thunderbirds sank nine of 11 foul shots (82 percent).

The Pirates (3-0 home) entertain Ft. Jennings (1-3) Thursday, December 1. FJ lost at a 2-1 Ottoville squad by a 48-26 count Tuesday night.
