Four BHS swimmers qualify for State competition

The Bluffton HIgh School boys and girls swimming team competed on Friday, February 17, 2023 in the North West D-2 District meet at Bowling Green State University. Bluffton joined teams from 74 high schools in the region. At Districts, the girls team finished 15 overall out of 39 teams and the boys team finished 10 overall out of 35 teams. 

The North West D-2 District meet included swimmers with the top 32 fastest times across six sectional sites. The fastest times across all four Districts will move on to the state D-2 competition which will be held February 23-24 at Canton McKinley High School in North Canton, Ohio.

The D-2 State meet will include BHS swimmers in the following events:

Boys 50 Freestyle
Jackson Bowlus, qualifying with a time of :22:54 and seeded 30

Boys 100 Backstroke
Jackson Bowlus, qualifying with a time of :55.17 and seeded 31

Boys 100 Breaststroke
Riley Verb, qualifying with a time of 1:01.24 and seeded 27

Boys 200 Individual Medley
Riley Verb, qualifying with a time of 1:58:84 and seeded 18

Boys 200 Medley Relay
Qualifying with a time of 1:40.59 and seeded 12

Girls 200 yard medley relay
Bluffton A relay finished eighth: Jenna Downey, Allison Diller, June Essinger and Izzy Stechschulte with a time of 1:56:35 and scored 22 points. This is also a new school record.

Boys 200 yard medley relay
Bluffton A Relay finished in fifth place: Jackson Bowlus, Riley Verb, Xavier Diller and Charles Wright with a time of 1:40.59 and scored 28 points. This is also a new school record and the relay qualified for the state competition.

Girls 200 IM
Allison Diller finished 15 with a time of 2:26:51 (PR) and scored two points.

Boys 200 IM
Riley Verb finished fourth with a time of 1:58.84 (PR) and scored 15 points. This is a new school record and he qualified for the state competition. 

Girls 50 yard freestyle
Jenna Downey finished 11 with a time of :25.38 (PR) and scored six points. This is also a new school record.
Izzy Stechschulte finished 18 with a time of :26.15
Ella Armstrong finished 28 with a time of :27.06 (PR)

Boys 50 yard freestyle
Jackson Bowlus finished 11 with a time of :22:55 (PR) and scored six points. This is a new school record and he qualified for the state competition in this event. 

Girls 100 butterfly
Jenna Downey finished seventh with a time of 1:03.14 (PR) and scored 12 points. This is also a new school record.
June Essinger finished 15 with a time of 1:06.11 (PR) and scored two points.

Boys 100 butterfly
Charles Wright finished 24 with a time of 1:00.19 (PR)
CJ McCall finished 31 with a time of 1:02.08

Girls 100 freestyle
Izzy Stechschulte finished 19 with a time of :57.73.

Boys 500 freestyle
Xavier Diller finished 14 with a time of 5:19.33 (PR) and scored three points

Girls 200 freestyle relay
Bluffton A relay finished eighth with a time of 1:43.91 with 22 points: Jenna Downey, Allison Diller, Ella Armstrong and Izzy Stechschulte. This is also a new school record. 

Boys 200 freestyle relay
Bluffton A finished 23 with a time of 1:40.41: Xavier Diller, CJ McCall, Jacob Lehman and Charles Wright.

Boys 100 backstroke
Jackson Bowlus finished sixth with a time of :55.77 (PR) and scored 13 points. This is also a new school record and he qualified for the state competition in this event.

Girls 100 breaststroke
Allison Diller finished 21 with a time of 1:15.27
June Essinger finished 28 with a time of 1:17.24 (PR).

Boys 100 breaststroke
Riley Verb finished ninth with a time of 1:01.24 (PR) and scored nine points. He also qualified for the state competition in this event. 

Girls 400 free relay
Bluffton A finished 20 with a time of 4:14.07: Ella Armstrong, Makenna Mohr, Rory Youngpeter and June Essinger.

Boys 400 free relay
Bluffton A finished eight with a time of 3:29.03 and scored 22 points: Xavier Diller, Charles Wright, Jackson Bowlus and Riley Verb. This is also a new school record.
