Pirate softball hits Titans with Thursday blowout

OTTAWA – Bluffton High School team swamped Ottawa-Glandorf 21-0 in a lopsided non-league softball game Thursday night, March 30.
The Pirates improved to 2-0 with the decisive win, while the Titans fell to 0-2.
The Pirates plated six runs in each of the first two innings to build a commanding 12-0 lead early.
Bluffton scored three more runs in the third, then tacked on five runs in the fourth. The visitors added one more run in the fifth to conclude the scoring in the run-rule shortened five inning mismatch.
The Pirates out-hit O-G, 15-2. The Titans committed seven errors as Bluffton left nine runners on base.
Vanessa Cross led the offense with three hits, five runs batted in and four runs. She smashed a home run, a triple and single to just miss hitting for the cycle. Cross also stole a base.
Aubrey Edwards collected three hits, three RBI and two runs. Adanna Johnstone hit a triple and scored. Olivia Hobensack smacked a double, scored two runs and drove in one run.
Dyllan Worcester hammered a double and a triple, drove in three runs and scored twice.
Olivia Matthews, Julia Mehaffie and Ashley Fleece each had a hit. Fleece scored twice and stole one base. Lauren Bassett added a hit, two runs and an RBI.
Starting pitcher Hannah Davis struck out three batters over two hitless innings. Cross hurled the final three frames and whiffed two Titans while allowing two hits, one a double.
Davis aided her own cause with a two-run hit, and she also scored twice.
