Anyone who dismissed the power of small change look at this figure: $2,886.51.

That's the amount of money collected at the Bluffton Elementary School from Dec. 1 to Jan. 14 for the Pennies for Peace Program, service learning project. Click here to read earlier story on this event.

According to Beth Raeburn, teacher in charge of the project, donations came in the following amounts:

Students-total of $2129.08:
Coins--$1494.08
Bills--$555.00
Checks--$80.00

Staff (plus a few community members and 1 local business) total of $757.43:
Coins--$144.43
Bills--$8.00
Checks--$605.00

Seventy third graders walked to First National Bank on Jan. 20 with over 100 gallon-size Ziploc bags of coins to be counted. To view a video of students at the bank click here.
