St. John’s UCC celebrates 150th Anniversary with street fair

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 223 West College Ave., is inviting the community to its 150th anniversary Street Fair on  Saturday, August 12 from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The street fair will take place on West College  Avenue between S. Lawn and S. Jackson, right next to the Church. Featuring food, entertainment, kids’ activities, crafts, games and historical displays, there will be  something for everyone to enjoy.

Food
Hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and chips will be provided. There will  be no fees for anything at the street fair. Those who would like to make a donation to support the mission of St. John’s can do so. Also available during the event will be Lugibihl’s Homemade Ice Cream, 150th birthday cupcakes, popcorn and more.

Entertainment
The 60’s Survivor Band will be on site with live music from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The band consists of 6 members, who are all native to Putnam County and started their love of  performing in the 1960’s as teenagers.

Fun and games
The young (and young at heart) will enjoy the bounce house and inflatable obstacle course, face painting, kid’s crafts, M&R putt-putt golf, Gaga ball, corn hole and giant Jenga.

St. John’s History
The congregation of St. John’s UCC invites everyone into the 144 year-old sanctuary to reminisce and learn about the church’s history. Inside, visitors can ring the church bell, view the original stained glass “Rose Window” that the 150th Anniversary logo is styled upon, get a tour, and listen to the 1947 Kilgen Pipe Organ that is listed in the Organ Historical Society database. You can also review historical pictures and documents, like the listing of the 40 original St. John’s Charter members.

The event will take place rain or shine, with music, food and some of the activities being  brought inside the church building if the weather doesn’t cooperate. More details and updates  can be found at blufftonstjohns.com or at facebook.com/BlufftonStJohnsUCC/
