The Bluffton high school football team held its final pre-season tune-up with a scrimmage vs. 2022 Northwest Central Conference champion Waynesfield-Goshen Friday night, August 11.

The Pirates tallied two touchdowns, while the red and white defense shut out Waynesfield. Neither team scored during the down and distance phase of the scrimmage.

Bluffton junior Landen Worcester scored on a touchdown run, and the other Pirate score came on a slant pass from Garret Bogart when the contest was based on 10-play possessions.

“The scrimmage did not go too bad, it was a good physical test,” said veteran W-G head coach Shane Wireman.

“Bluffton challenged us in the trenches and made us earn our yards. Worcester is a real nice running back/linebacker,” he continued.

Bluffton posted a 5-5 record last year (4-3 Northwest Conference). The Pirates missed the expanded playoffs by two spots, finishing 18th in region 18 of Div. IV.

This season, Bluffton will compete in Div. VI, region 22.

Waynesfield was 11-1 in 2022, winning the NWCC title at 7-0 while posting a 10-0 regular season.

The Pirates open the 2023 season at home vs. Ben Logan August 18. The Raiders were 4-6 last year in Div. IV, Region 14.

They then entertain local rival Pandora-Gilboa (8-4) Aug. 25.

Bluffton kicks off NWC play at home vs. Delphos Jefferson (7-5, 5-2 NWC) September 8.
