Pirate boys soccer nipped late by Celina

BLUFFTON – The Bluffton boys soccer team gave up a goal in the final two minutes and lost 2-1 to visiting non-league foe Celina at Steinmetz Field Monday, October 7.

Celina’s Zaden Rolfes scored in the 79th minute to break a 1-1 tie and give the visiting Bulldogs the victory.

The Pirate record dropped to 8-8 overall after the tough loss. Celina improved to 11-4-1 after the last-minute victory.

Celina led 1-0 after a goal in the 37th minute by Carson Staudler.

But Pirate Levi Antrim netted the equalizer a minute later on an assist from Jackson Brauen to send the match into halftime knotted up 1-1.

Bluffton directed two of its nine shots at Celina keeper Brady Steinbrunner. The Bulldogs managed to get off six shots, four of which were on goal.

Pirate keeper Emmitt Kidd made two saves in goal, while Steinbrunner stopped one.  

The Pirate junior varsity lost to the Bulldogs, 8-0.

Bluffton visits tough Kalida (8-3-2) in the regular season finale Thursday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m.
