Pirate girls basketball defeats Raiders

BLUFFTON – The Bluffton High School girls basketball team led throughout and defeated visiting Ben Logan 62-42 in a non-league contest Wednesday night, November 27.
The Pirates improved to 2-1 with the convincing win, while BL fell to 1-1 after the defeat.
Bluffton captured a 15-10 edge after the first period as Ayla Grandey tallied eight markers. The hosts extended the lead to 32-24 at halftime behind eight more Grandey second-stanza points.
Six Pirates scored in a big Bluffton 15-5 third period that put the game out of reach, 47-29. The Pirates put 15 more points up in the fourth quarter for the third quarter in the game to win by 20.
Senior 6-3 post Grandey scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in the first half. In the 17-14 second period alone, she canned six of seven foul shots. Overall, she converted 10 of 11 free throws, and she also made four baskets.
Junior 5-9 wing Blair Utendorf tallied seven of her 10 points in the final period.
Freshman guard Maelee Miller and 6-0 freshman Lainey Grandey each scored eight points. ▶︎
Senior guard Jordan Schweingruber tallied seven markers. Junior Lauren Dearth added six points.
Kailey Hays led BL with 11 points. Elliott Butler added eight markers.
The Pirate girls sank 20 deuces and three triples. Bluffton made 13 of its 19 charity stripe attempts (68 percent).
The Raider girls canned 14 two-pointers and hit four treys. BL canned two of its five foul shot tries (40 percent).
BL went on the road and whipped Upper Scioto Valley 60-24 Monday evening in their season opener.
In their fourth straight home game to start the season, Bluffton hosts Defiance (0-2) for a non-league game Tuesday, December 3.
