Pirate bowlers win vs. Miller City

The visiting Bluffton varsity bowling team outscored Miller City 2,738 pins to 2,505 pins on January 30.

The win improved the Pirate record to 7-2.

Bluffton won round one with a consistent 890-888=1,778 two-game series. MC rolled an 844-812-1,656 two-game set.

High games for the Pirates were rolled by Coby Dailey (232) and Matt Piehl (206). Wildcat Lucas Klear bowled a 213, while teammate Branden Reynolds shot a 203 high game.

The Pirates entered the Baker Series with a 122-pin lead. Bluffton rolled 192-215-180-215-158=960 Baker set to win round two by 111 pins.

MC bowled a 177-202-179-142-149=849 Baker Series.

“We had a strong performance from our varsity,” said Pirate head coach Ben Nye. “Coby Dailey had his high game and series of the season with a 232 and 426 (total).

“Brady Montgomery also put up back-to-back, season-high games going 170 and 174. Also, our 960 Baker Series total was our best of the season with the fourth game (215) being a clean game,” he added.

MC won the close JV match 2,217 to 2,131 pins. The Pirate reserves finished up with a record of 2-4.

The Bluffton JV rolled a 681-734=1,415 two-game set in round one. MC bowled 650-763=1,413 series in round one to trail by just two pins.

Pirate Drew Frideger bowled games of 183 and 171, while Austin Blue totaled a 183 for his high game.

The Bluffton reserves rolled a Baker Series of 179-122-129-109-177=716.

The Wildcat JV bowled a 191-141-130-156-186=804 Baker Series to win round two by 88 pins, and thus take the match by 86 pins.

“Our JV lost another close one, but in their last match of the season we had our best team match of the year,” said Nye. “Their 2,131 total was the group’s highest score of the season. 

“We had new high games from Drew Frideger at 183, Natalie Richards at 126 and Austin Blue at 183,” Nye noted. “Also, a new high two-game series from Drew Frideger (354) and Tate Steinmetz (275). 

“It was great helping and watching the JV bowlers improve over the last three months,” he summed up. “We had a lot of first-time bowlers on the team, and seeing them pick up and understand the game so quickly was amazing. I am very proud of everything they accomplished this year.”
