Ada traffic stop leads to pursuit and crash on State Route 81

On March 23, 2025, at 12:35 a.m., an Ada officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation near State Route 81 and State Route 235 in the Village of Ada. The vehicle failed to stop and continued West bound at approximately 80-85 miles-per-hour.
Near the 1200 block of State Route 81 the vehicle lost control and struck a piece of farm equipment on someone’s property. The vehicle flipped and came to rest. The driver, Carson Shafer, exited the vehicle and ran from the Ada officer.
Additional assistance was requested from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Allen County Sheriff’s Office, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office.
Carson was located at approximately 2:23 a.m in a nearby field. Carson was transported to St. Rita’s Medical Center prior to being booked into the Multi-County Jail in Marion.
