Riley Creek Festival slated for today at Bluffton University
Events will move to Marbeck Center, Burcky Gym and Founders Hall hallways in case of rain.
Bluffton University will host the eighth annual Riley Creek Festival beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, primarily on the Neufeld Hall lawn.
The event is free-except for lunch-and open to the public. Lunch, served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., is $6 for adults and $3 for children.
"Get in the Game!" is the theme of this year's festival, a day of music, entertainment, games and, starting at 4 p.m. at the College Avenue bridge, the annual rubber duck race down Riley Creek. A racing duck may be purchased for $1, with all proceeds going to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
In keeping with the theme, festival-goers may also take in afternoon baseball and softball doubleheaders against visitors Franklin (beginning at noon) and Ursuline (a 2 p.m. start), respectively. The softball team is holding its annual Strike-Out Cancer fundraiser for the American Cancer Society in conjunction with its doubleheader.
Providing music on the Neufeld lawn will be Come Wind at 1 p.m., the Anabaptist Bestiary Project at 2 p.m. and Twenty One Pilots at 3 p.m. Bluffton mascot J. Denny Beaver will be on hand, and inflatables; cornhole, carnival and Wii games; and Shirley's Popcorn and other snacks will be available. A chili cook-off is scheduled as well, at 2 p.m. in the Ramseyer Hall lobby. The festival will end after the rubber duck race, but community members and their families are invited back to campus for a 9 p.m. showing of "Space Jam" on the lawn.
