Alumni and friends golf scramble raises over $8,000
Bluffton University's 14th annual alumni and friends golf scramble on July 16 raised more than $8,000 for university athletics through TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) Bluffton.
Harrod's Colonial Golfers Club hosted the event, which drew 122 golfers from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Florida.
The winners of the scramble received monetary prizes. Richard Bindernagel '79 of Middlebury Heights, OH teamed with Dennis Thompson '78 (Elida, Ohio), James Frisk '78 (Wooster, Ohio) and Jeffrey Deyling '78 (Parma, Ohio) all took home first-place honors.
Second place went to Spike Berry '60, Tom Doty, Mike Minnig '93 and Brad Prater all from Bluffton while Rod McDaniel (Pandora, Ohio), Lynn Martin (Findlay, Ohio), Gene Lloyd (Findlay, Ohio) and Scott Walthour (Ottawa, Ohio) comprised the third-place team.
Awards were also given to George Bissell '93 (Norwalk, Ohio) for longest drive by a man, Clair Recker '73 (Angola, Ind.) for longest drive by a man 60 or over. Charles Stapleton '78 (New Albany, Ohio) made the longest putt on the 18th hole, while Randy Prince and Daniel Greener (Lambertville, Mich.) were closest to the pin with their tee shots on the par-3 fourth and 13th holes, respectively.
TEAM Bluffton was established in 2004 to provide financial assistance to the Bluffton athletics program. The funds, provided by alumni, parents and friends who are passionate about Bluffton athletics, assist the varsity sports program and special projects and needs identified by the athletics department.
