Discolored water problems on Grove, Lawn and Poplar streets don't seem to go away. J. D. Yoder and Mike Edmiston of Grove Street asked Bluffton council on Monday to get the problem fixed as soon as possible.
Yoder showed samples of water from his faucet from today - the water resembled the color of cider. Edmiston showed particles of rust from his water and shared photos of discolored sinks caused by the rusty water.
Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, told council that the discoloration problems on these streets are persisting and even seem to be worsening.
"We are flushing the lines in that area at least once a week," he said, "sometimes more, based on reports and complaints of discolored water. We are continuing to search for resolutions. I will meet with Choice One Engineering soon to review the in-process preliminary layout for the waterline replacement project for this area."
The village plans to replace the existing cast iron water lines from the 1930s on Grove, Lawn and Jackson.
Even if the project was placed on the "fast track" it could March or April 2012 before a replacement project could get underway, according to Mayor Fred Rodabaugh.
Council passed the second reading of a proposed golf cart regulation ordinance. Part of the ordinance is now subject to change. The Ohio State legislature is considering golf cart legislation. The village intends to have its ordinance in line with the state's.
Council was notified of two businesses making requests for liquor licenses. The businesses are Tu Pueblo, Main Street, and Dollar General on Citizens Parkway.
