Bluffton December night

A little Photoshop magic and suddenly Main Street's holiday lights take on a special appearance.

Six Bluffton Middle School students were named students of the month for October.

6th Grade
Allison Wise is the daughter of Chad and Heidi Wise, Bluffton and Shanda Wright, Lima. Allison is a member of the BMS choir. She plays volleyball and is a cheerleader. She attend Lincoln Park Church and is in their youth group.

Braeden Edwards is the son of Steve and Lauren Edwards of Bluffton. Braeden plays basketball, football, and baseball. He is a member of the BMS choir. He has a BFR membership and attends First United Methodist Church in Bluffton.

Bluffton Public Library's December calendar is now available for Icon viewers.

December is a month of several holiday-related events including a visit from Santa from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 10. Holiday music will be peformed Monday, Dec. 5 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, from noon to 1 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Lots of holiday related activities are planned at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center this month, according to Tonya Meyers, director.

The Center will hold extended shopping hours: Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. until the weekend of Christmas.

Peanut brittle is available while the supply lasts. The Bluffton-made candy is available at the Center for $5 a pound. Another Christmas gift idea are Bluffton playing cards, based on historical photos representing Bluffton. Decks are $10 each, while supplies last.

QVC merchandise in Bluffton's newest business

Bluffton now has a brand-name outlet store. "missElaineous QVC Corner," an outlet for the QVC products opened earlier this fall in Polished Nail and Body Salon, 417 N. Main St.

Named for Elaine Fair, mother of Polished owner Joan Frederick, the business is the only one of its type in northwestern Ohio.

Book ReViews, 123 S. Main St., announces holiday season specials, according to Paula Unrau, of the used book store.

Now through Dec. 17 quilting, decorating and craft books are one-half off. "Gentle reads" are two for the price of one.

The store has a kid's room with like-new children's books and Christmas stories. The junior room has Newberry Award books and others. Up front patrons will find like-new suspense novels and Amish fiction. Unique finds are in the back of the store.

The Ohio Northern University Astronomy Club will host a star party at the ONU Observatory on Friday, Dec. 2, from 8:30-10:30 p.m.

At the star party, attendees will look for the moon, Jupiter, the Pleiades star cluster and the Andromeda Galaxy.

This event is free and open to the public.

In the event of cloudy or unfavorable atmospheric conditions, the event will be canceled. Please consult the observatory website for news on future viewing dates and possible cancellations and to view maps of the observatory.

Bluffton Public Library will be closed from Dec. 23-26 in observance of Christmas. The library will reopen on Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 9:30 a.m.

In addition, the library will also be closed from Dec. 31-Jan. 2 in observance of the New Year's Day holiday. The library will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 9:30 a.m.

Due dates for library materials will be adjusted accordingly.
