Bluffton University graduate David Dellifield of Ada (a 39 year-old, non-smoker) was diagnosed with Stage 4, well-differentiated squamous-cell carcinoma (throat cancer) on Feb. 2, after going to the doctor for a swollen lymph node and earache.
Dellifield had already begun training for the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati. He had already put 125 miles in since 1-1-11. This race will be his 5th FULL Marathon (26.2 miles) since the Flying Pig in May 2009.
Rhythm In Motion Dance Centre' participated in their first dance competition of the 2011 dance season on March 5 at Encore Talent Productions, Columbus. The group of 14 dancers brought home nine awards, including three Overall Awards and one Judge's Choice Award.
Boogie Fever, directed by Darcey Schneider, danced by RIMDC Petite Team of ages 5-7 received a High Gold, 5th place overall. Performer Evelynn Schneider from the Petite Team received a special Judges' Award, Most Photogenic of the 2011 Columbus Competition.

Construction continues to progress at Bluffton Hospital. Last week the construction contractors placed some metal roofing caps, excavate the waterline along Harmon Street and tie in waterlines just outside the boiler room.
They also placed most of the steel posts that protect traffic from backing into the generator area.
Windows were placed along the west side of the new building. The canopy metal framework continues. The metal screen wall on the roof was completed.
St. John's United Church of Christ's beef and noodle dinner is set for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Friday, March 18, at the church.The menu includes homemade beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, dinner rolls, fresh homemade pies, fruit gelatin and a drink.
Tickets are $7 each. The dinner is open to the public. The church is at the corner of Jackson and College.
Myda Jane Badertscher, 88, of rural Bluffton, died at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green.
She was born on Feb. 21, 1923, to the late Byron and Mary (Lehman) Manges in Orange Twp., Hancock County She married Wayne L. Badertscher on Nov. 22, 1951, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2008.
