Bluffton Mayor Fred Rodabaugh would like to have the now-closed car wash at the corner of Vance and Elm cleaned up. In a 20-minute Bluffton council meeting on Aug. 9, where little action except reports were given, the mayor closed the meeting stating:" I want something done (about the former car wash). It's a commercial area they (the owners) are ignoring. We've sent them letters. They haven't done anything for six months.

Where were you born and where did you grow up?

I was born, and grew up, on a farm in central Illinois, just outside the tiny town of Meadows. If you've ever driven across Illinois on US Route 24, you've driven right past my home. It's in amongst all the corn, soybean and oats fields. By the time I was born, our house had electricity, a bathroom, and running water. Some of my friends were not so fortunate.

BFR's Bluffton Coed Adult Softball League finishes the season with a tournament Aug. 9-11. The nine teams are involved in tournament play Monday through Wednesday nights (games at 6 p.m.and 7:15 p.m. Monday, 7:15 p.m. Tuesday) at the Bluffton village park. The semi-final games will be played at 6 p.m. Wednesday with the final game at 7:15 p.m.

Rhythm in Motion Dance Centre, 222 N. Main St., Ada, will hold an open house from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 14, according to owner Darcey Schneider.

Registration is now open for dance and gymnastic classes. Dance classes offered includes tap, ballet, jazz, hip hop, modern and pointe. Classes are open for ages 2 through adult.

Schneider said, "We are an award-winning and DEA of New York City Certified Dance Centre. Come and meet our certified and trained staff. Refreshments and giveaways will take place throughout the open house."

Work continues in the former parking area on the north side of Bluffton Hospital with Charles Construction preparing footers this week.

The two-story construction is beginning to take shape as concrete blocks are continued to be laid this week. The first floor of this building will be the new Emergency Department and the second floor will be occupied by physician clinics.

Bluffton University's fiscal year ended June 30 and, for the ninth straight year, Bluffton alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends contributed more than $1 million to the Bluffton Fund that helps underwrite annual operations.

"Gifts to the Bluffton Fund provide essential support for instruction, academic support and financial aid. During a challenging economic time, we are thankful for the generosity of Bluffton's alumni and friends who make a difference in the lives of our students," said Dr. Hans Houshower, vice president for advancement.

A Back-to-School Carnival will be held on the soccer field at Trinity Lutheran School, 105 Allen Street, Jenera, on Saturday Aug. 14 from 1-4 p.m. There will be games, a bounce-house, candy, prizes, food and fun for all ages.
