Obituaries

Esther Arlene Helberg Lobdell, 100, formerly of Bluffton, died on April 10, 2020.

She was born June 2, 1919, in Bowling Green, Ohio, to the late George R. Helberg and Gertrude Farmer Helberg.

She had been a resident of Mineola, Texas, for 40 years, formerly living in Bluffton, Ohio. She worked as a realtor and housewife. She was a member United Methodist Women and an Eastern Star for over 60 years in Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern A. Lobdell, in 1999. She also lost 7 sisters, 3 brothers, and one grandchild, Philip Lobdell.

Bernita L. Miller, 89, died April 17, 2020, at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton.  Bernita was born Nov. 4, 1930, in Cridersville to the late Bernard and Alvina (Zweibel) Winget.  On Nov. 4, 1951, she married Marvin "Bud" Miller who preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2013. 

Constance F. “Connie” Kindle, 79, died on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at 8:08 a.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born on March 29, 1941, in Greenup, Kentucky, to the late Silas and Fannie Shepherd. On Jan. 19, 1957, Connie married James L. Kindle, Sr. and he preceded her in death on June 4, 2016.

Connie held a few jobs in her lifetime, but especially enjoyed her time as a homemaker. She was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church of Ada. 

Betty L. Kier, 96, died on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at 7:55 a.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born on April 15, 1924, in St. Marys, West Virginia, to the late Blair P. and Ruth C. (Krichbaum) Cooke.  On April 12, 1958, Betty married Thomas I. Kier and he preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2003.

Betty retired from Ohio Bell, where she worked as a telephone operator.  She was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Canton.

Betty Lou Jason,  80, died on Good Friday, April 10, 2020, after a prolonged illness. She was a resident of the Mennonite Memorial Nursing Home in Bluffton, Ohio.

Betty was born Jan. 11, 1940, in Cat Spring, Texas, as a 4th generation German-American. She grew up with cousins in south Texas before moving to New Albany, Indiana.

She married in 1959 and had three children. From 1970-1977 Betty lived in Mt. Cory, Ohio, serving as a pastor’s wife. 

Terry Lewis Huber, 64, died April 8, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family after a battle with cancer. He was born May 15, 1955, in Lima to Dale Lewis Huber, who survives near Bluffton, and Etta Jo (Maynard) Huber, who preceded him in death. On May 22, 1982, he married Cheryl Kay Anspach, and she survives in Lima.

Terry graduated from Bluffton High School in 1973 and attended The Ohio State University. He and his twin brother, Larry, operated Huber Farms.
