Lydia Guagenti, who has just committed to the Ohio State University, had a big day on Sunday at the University of Findlay's high school Oiler Invite track meet.
She cleared 5-07.00 in the high jump to take first with her best indoor jump ever. She beat the second place finisher by 3 inches. This height places her in the top 15 in the country so far in 2012 (according to milesplit.com) and was just short of her outdoor PR of 5-08.00. The height also earned her the rank of Mile Split US First Team Elite.
Members of the Ohio High School Athletic Association's Competitive Balance Committee met at the OHSAA office Tuesday, January 31, and came to the consensus that they will continue to study the competitive balance issue, Commissioner Daniel B. Ross, Ph.D., said.
She's a Buckeye. Lydia Guagenti, Bluffton High School senior, signed a national letter of intent today to attend Ohio State University. There she will be a member of the women's track and field team.
She is only the fourth Bluffton High School girl to play athletics in a Big Ten program. Ann Stechschute attended Purdue, Caity Matter attended Ohio State and Carrie Fett attended Purdue.
In addition to completing in team sports, Megan Dunlap, BHS grad, was a cheerleader at Ohio State.
Plenty of all-session and single-session tickets will be available for the 2012 Ohio High School Athletic Association Boys and Girls State Basketball Tournaments, and public sales of tickets for both tournaments will begin soon through Ticketmaster or in person at The Ohio State University's Jerome Schottenstein Center, the site of both state tournaments that take place in March.
