The Bluffton High School boys soccer Northwest Conference opener vs. visiting Spencerville was halted by lightning at halftime Monday night, August 29.
The Pirates (1-2) led 1-0 at intermission on the pitch of Steinmetz Field when the match was stopped. The game will be resumed at a date yet to be determined.
Bluffton plays two unbeaten non-conference powers this week. They visit Perrysburg (3-0) Thursday night, and host Ottoville (4-0) Saturday, September 3 at 11:45 a.m.

Between 7:30 p.m. and sunset on August 29, area skies transformed dramatically. Views went from highly textured black, greys and white to a smooth wash of vivid pinks, purples and oranges.
Photographer Jamie Nygaard captured the start of the 2022-2023 school year at Bluffton Elementary School, where students and teachers began the process of settling back into classroom routines.
As students left afterwards, the atmosphere was all sunshine and smiles. Superintendent Greg Denecker reported that the day went well. Elementary Principal Ben Thiel said the real challenge is when kindergardeners arrive on Wednesday, Agust 31.
After buses departed, the flock of children meeting siblings, parents and grandparents for the walk or ride home was lively, with school staff helping sort it all out.
The family of Sharon (Parkins) Marshall invite friends and extended family to a memorial in her honor. This event will take place on Sunday, September 4 at The Centre in Bluffton at 2:00 pm.
