Two days remain - but they might be the best two! Bluffton's sesquicentennial celebration has a full weekend of activities planned Friday and Saturday, July 1 and 2.

Here's Friday's schedule:

Milton McDowell

Byron "Milton" McDowell, 84, of Bluffton and formerly Columbus Grove, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

He was born June 27, 1927, in Columbus Grove, Ohio, to Byron Lee and Neva (McKanna) McDowell. On July 9, 1948, he married Mary Jane Roberts who survives.

Mr. McDowell retired from Baldwin-Lima Hamilton/Clark Equipment, Lima, and from Bluffton University. He was a member and elder of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Columbus Grove.

A couple dozen volunteers from the UAW 1219 ramp crew made life a lot more comfortable for a Bluffton family.

The crew constructed a wheelchair ramp free of charge on Thursday, June 30.

The ramp crew consists of retired Ford Motor Company employees of Lima. The members volunteer their time to construct wheelchair ramps for persons in the Lima and surrounding area.

If Monday was Ladies' Day, then Thursday, June 30, must be Kid's Day. Bluffton sesquicentennial events continue with a schedule of events gears for youth planned.

Here's Thursday's schedule:
o10 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Children's activities planned in the Bluffton Presbyterian Church alley
o10 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Adult and children art and photo contest, also in the Presbyterian Church yard.
o2 to 4 p.m. - American Girl tea at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center

The Bluffton Public Library has made a flyer available to persons interested in local history and genealogy material. The flyer lists all materials housed in the Shannon Room, which are non-circulating. Persons with questions should ask the library staff.

The sources include print, microfilm, vertical and Internet sources.

Kirtland Auto's has a new manager's special, according to Jim Kinn. It is a 2006 Ford Mustang convertible. All the specs of this vehicle are available on a printer-friendly attachment at the bottom of this story.

The vehicle is also displayed on a display ad in This Icon.

Rhythm in Motion Dance Centre, 222 N. Main St., Ada, announces its summer open registration, summer classes and open house, according to Darcy Schneider, owner.

Summer classes follow:
Princess camp 2011, registration $36, held July 11 to 14
Ages 2-4, 10 to 10:45 a.m.
Ages 5 and up, 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Open house for the fall is Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Open registration is June 30, from 1-3 p.m.; July 13, 1-3 p.m.; July 28, 6-8 p.m.; Aug. 11 and Aug. 16, 6-8 p.m.; and Aug. 22, 5-7 p.m. Fall classes start Aug. 29.

Several new features have joined The Bluffton Icon recently. The newest is a "Coupon Page." This feature will list Bluffton area coupons in a convenient to use, printer-friendly format.

Fred Steiner of The Icon said that several businesses have indicated an interest in having coupons on the website. "We've experimented with several ideas and have now launched our coupon concept."

The Icon spotted this plate at Wheels. Not a bad color combination.

Diana G. Dillman

Diana G. Dillman, 64 of Bluffton died at 6 p.m. June 28, 2011 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. She was born March 20, 1947 in Sharpsburg, Kentucky, to Cecil "Pete" Walters and Elizabeth Robinson Cole.
