Mike Burris continues to lead the Icon college bowl contest after 17 games (Jan. 1). Here's the current standings:

In 2011 The Bluffton Icon continued to rack up an impressive growth of total views and individual viewers, according to its owners Fred and Mary P. Steiner. During 2012 the Icon's total views will reach one-half million. As of Dec. 31, The Icon has had 443,197 total views since it was launched in September 2009.

In 2011 lots of us complained about the weather, but nobody did anything about it. During the 12 months just past we experienced enough weather extremes to, well, read about it.

For example, in 2011 we experienced 34 inches of snowfall in just the first 60 days of the year. We also watched the thermometer stretch 108 degrees, from a low of minus 10 to a high of 98.

But in the end the average maximum temperature and the average minimum temperatures were pretty close to the previous five-year averages.

The January Bluffton Public Library calendar is now available for Icon viewers. Several special events are planned during the first month of the year at the library.
