Chad Donelson’s favorite Wendy’s meal is a Number 2 Combo. Zane Gross says his favorite is the spicy chicken with cheese and bacon added.

They ought to know what they are talking about. The two men are co-owners of Bluffton’s new Wendy’s, which celebrated a soft opening on Dec. 28.

The owners' comments about Bluffton customers, reflects local tastes: "We keep running of out spoons" (for the frosty's).

Chad started flipping burgers in his parent’s Wendy’s in Ashland in 1985. Zane started in the same Wendy’s as assistant manager in 1982.

The Bluffton University women's basketball team stumbled out of the gate and never recovered as rival Defiance College dominated round one of the 2012-13 series with a 54-32 victory. The Beavers fell to 1-4 in the HCAC and 6-6 overall, while Defiance improved to 5-0 in HCAC and 8-4 overall.

Bluffton could not overcome a cold-shooting first half after jumping out to an early lead on a Taylor Whitaker (Mansfield/Lexington) three. When Defiance finally found the range, the Yellow Jackets put it into overdrive as they built a commanding 34-9 lead at the break.

Does it seem like it's been warmer this past year? Well, that's because it was. 

The overall average temperature for 2012 was three degrees warmer than 2011.  Even the average coldest temperatures of 2012 were warmer than the average coldest temperatures of the previous six years.  Last year was, in fact, warmer than any of the previous six years, according to weather statistics gathered by Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer.

Evelyn Luginbuhl will receive a lifetime membership to the Bluffton Senior Center in honor of her 90th birthday. 

A potluck will take place during the January dinner meeting on Monday, Jan. 14, at noon at the Senior Center and Evelyn will recieve a red rose and her lifetime membership.

Bill Peebles will MC the event with Ruth Bartels hosting.  The program for the evening is entitled "It's cold and dark so lets look at photos of Hawaii."

 

The ArtSpace/Lima Photography Club will present its annual juried exhibition from Friday, Jan. 4 through Saturday, Feb. 16 in The Ellen Nelson Gallery at ArtSpace.

The exhibit will feature 114 total photographs: 90 photographs by 38 adult photographers and 24 photographs by 15 youth photographers. In all, 47 photographers entered 183 photographs.  Entry categories include: Animals, Architecture, Black and White, Landscape, Plants, Portraiture, Special Effects, Still Life, Miscellaneous, and Youth.

The Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio has provided the Icon with the worship schedule for MMH.  Services are held on Sunday and Tuesday throughout the month.

Guy Verhoff, Icon weather observer provided a summary of our December weather.  Here goes:

The high temprature in December was 66 degrees on Dec. 3. The low was 14 degrees on Dec. 28. The average December 2012 temperature was 36.9 degrees. The normal average for December is 29.2 degrees.

The precipitation for December 2012 was 3.03 inches. The normal average precipitation is 2.69 inches.  Additionally, December snow totals were 12.7 inches.  All in all, we seem do be doing a little catch up from our dry November. 

Persons interested in volunteering at the Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St., Bluffton, are invited to contact Mary Ring, volunteer coordinator.

Volunteers are needed on Sunday mornings to wheel residents to the Sunday worship service in the MMH chapel.

Volunteers are scheduled once a quarter, leaving ample time for volunteers to retain their own chuch and Sunday routines. Volunteers are trained on their first Sunday. Persons interested may contact Ring at 419-358-1015, extension 248.

Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St., Bluffton invites persons in the community to donate large print books to its library.

Dorothy J. "Dottie" Edinger, 81 of Bluffton died at 2:45 a.m. Jan. 1, 2013 at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born January 7, 1931 in Mt. Cory to the late John and Anna (Gorby) Bowersox. On June 28, 1953 she married Norman Edinger and he died December 5, 1992.

Dottie retired from Bluffton Hospital. She was a member of Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton.  She was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Cory High School
