The date to purchase all-session tickets for both the 2013 OHSAA Boys and Girls State Basketball Tournaments has been moved earlier this year for fans interested in watching some of the best high school basketball in the nation.

All-session tickets for both tournaments will go on sale beginning Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster or in person at The Ohio State University’s Jerome Schottenstein Center, the site of both state tournaments that take place in March.

A Bluffton Police Nixel alert: There is the potential for flooding through Monday. Please take precautionary measures as needed while you have time to do so, according to Rick Skilliter, Bluffton police chief.

The Hardin County Historical Museum will hold the first ever Kenton Toys Collectors Cast Iron Toy Show February 16, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., at the Hardin County Historical Museum, 223 N. Main St., Kenton, according to Linda L. Iams, Director.

Featured will be the Museum’s collection of Kenton Toys.  You can buy, sell, or trade, or just browse the tables.  Kenton Toy Collector club members will be on site to appraise toys. 

Free Admission.  A limited number of vendor tables are available  at $25.00 (one table per vendor, only).

Spencerville defeated the Bluffton boys' varsity 51-42 in a Northwest Conference Friday night contest.

 Bluffton was led by Michael Donley with 17 points.

Bluffton resident Jeff Sprague was named president of the Allen Economic Development Group yesterday, succeeding outgoing president Marcel Wagner, who has held the position since 1994.

The announcement was part of the Allen Economic Development Group five-year Leadership Transition Plan.

"As chair of the Allen Economic Development Board, I would like to thank Marcel for his years of service and appreciate his contribution to the Allen Economic Development Group," said Eric Pohjala, board chairman.

Carlin Carpenter told Friday's (Jan. 11) Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast audience that this was the earliest he's been up since his kitchen was on fire several years ago.

Now, the internet is ripe with many cool things. We at the Icon thought this was pretty neat.

Brandon Martin-Anderson created a map that contains a dot for every single person counted in the last U.S. and Canadian censuses.  That means 341,817,095 dots. 

According to the site, he wanted "an image of human settlement patterns unmediated by proxies like city boundaries, arterial roads, state lines, etc."  So he wrote a computer program and fed in the information from the census.

BFR Sports and Fitness has announced open registration for the following youth and adult activities:

Indoor Soccer

BFR Sports & Fitness is currently accepting registration for Session 3 of the indoor soccer league.

This session begins the week of January 6 and runs for 5 weeks plus a tournament. There are divisions for U8 players all the way through adults. Cost for this league is $440 per team. Deadline for registration is January 28 and all are reminded that divisions may fill early.

The next lunchtime meeting of the Bluffton Lions Club will be held Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Maple Crest at noon. 

The featured speaker will be Peter Previte, professor of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University.  He will be speaking on the topic of a “Brief History of the Federal Food/Drug/Cosmetic Act”.  

In additonal business, the meeting will include the induction of some new members.
