The Blanchard Valley Regional Cancer Center (BVRCC), 15990 Medical Drive South, Findlay, will be hosting six American Cancer Society Look Good Feel Better events throughout 2013. The events will be held February 4, April 1, June 3, August 5, October 7 and December 2. Each event will take place from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. in the BVRCC family conference room.
A pair of Bluffton University linebackers were named Third Team All-Ohio by OhioCollegeFootball.com for Division 3. Ben Kaufman (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) and Josh Runda (Lima/Bath) were recognized for their contributions on the gridiron. They followed in the footsteps of Justin Crosier who was a Second Team All-Ohio selection for 2011.
Senior Ben Kaufman spearheaded the stout Bluffton defense, earning First Team All-HCAC honors in his final campaign with the Beavers. He finished second on the team with 88 total tackles, including 31 solo stops.
Jennifer Little, Bluffton University’s dietetic internship experience coordinator, has been awarded one of 45 “Kids Eat Right” mini-grants sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation.
Kids Eat Right is an academy member-driven public education campaign to support families, schools and communities in their pursuit of quality nutrition and obesity prevention efforts in children and families.
Joel William (Bill) Boehr, 83, died at his home in Chandler, Ariz., at 5:15 a.m., Jan. 6, 2013. He was born in Bluffton to John and Edna Boehr on Sept. 18, 1929. He is survived by a brother, Richard (Corrinne) Boehr, of Bluffton.
Mr. Boehr graduated from Pandora High School and from Bluffton College, where he majored in art. He then went on to graduate from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Birmingham, Mich. He volunteered and served two years in the United State Marine Corp.
Bluffton Public Library will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Due dates for library materials will be adjusted accordingly.
Here's a photo indentified only as "County Champions" BHS 108 ------ 30. We take this to mean a Bluffton football team in 1904 was the best squad in Allen County, scoring 108 points and having only 30 points scored on them. We don't know how many games they played or who were their opponents.
For example, if they played five games, they averaged 21.6 points (three touchdowns per game) against only 1 for their opponents.
Beginning Friday, Jan. 25, area families will be encouraged to add fruits and vegetables to the daily menu, limit screen time and add physical activity as part of the 5-2-1-Almost None Family Challenge sponsored by BFR.
This challenge is part of the annual Keeping Active Wellness campaign that begins Jan. 21. The 5-2-1-Almost None program has been offered through schools and communities by the "Let's Go" organization.
The Bluffton Public Library will hold a book discussion about The Language of Flowers, a novel by Vanessa Diffenbaugh. The discussion will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the library’s second floor board room.
The book has been chosen to coordinate with Ms. Diffenbaugh’s upcoming CommunityREAD public appearance in Findlay. She will be speaking at 7 p.m. on March 15th at Winebrenner Auditorium.
