Daniel Dexter, a staff minister from El Paso, Texas, will be at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, on Sunday, July 14. 

Dexter will give a program on his Bible memorization skills at 9:15 a.m. and also be a part of the worship services at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. 

He is a professional storyteller who is gifted in being able to memorize and put into voice, sections of the Bible as it is found in the New International Version. Everyone is welcome and the church is handicapped accessible.  

Irene Louise Burkholder, 89, of Lima died at 8:57 p.m. July 5, 2013, at Otterbein Cridersville Retirement Center. She was born July 11,  1923 in Ossian, Ind., to Wilson and Louise Elett Snider who preceded her in death. On April 20, 1947, she married Martin D. Burkholder who died April 5, 2010.

Mrs. Burkholder worked for American Airlines prior to her marriage and later worked at the Beaverdam Post Office. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Lafayette.   

The following are babies born at Bluffton Hospital from May 7 through July 2:

May 7 - Eden Elizabeth Hagen, daughter of Lorren Welch and Timothy Hagen, 6 pounds and 11 ounces, 19 inches long.

May 9 - Simon James Phillips, son of Carrie and Steve Phillips, 8 pounds and seven ounces, 20 inches long.

May 10- Eimaniegh Chanel Sergent, daughter of Alexandra Guerra and Justin Sergent, 6 pounds and 5 ounces, 20 inches long.

Marlin Gerber will have 10 pound boxes of Michigan blueberries available in Bluffton on Monday, July 15,  at 12:30 p.m.

Gerber said that there are about six rounding quarts of berries in 10 pounds and the cost is $25.  Orders of four or more boxes cost $23 each.

Lois Arlene Geiser, 73, died July 4, 2013, at home with her family. She was born Oct. 16, 1939, in Bluffton to Sidney and Thelma (Wingate) Balmer, who preceded her in death. She married Ron Geiser July 1, 1961, and he survives.

Also surviving are sons Jon (Sara), Byron, Mich., and Deron (Michele), Bluffton, and daughter Kamala (Eric) Renick, Cincinnati. Grandchildren are Sam, Shane and Zac Geiser, Byron, Mich.; Kristi and Jaret Geiser, Bluffton; and Sydney and Ethan Renick, Cincinnati.

Children ages 4, 5 and 6 are welcome to participate in four additional BFR Sports and Fitness Adventure Camp dates this summer, according to Carole Enneking, BFR director. 

Adventure Camp is a 1 ½ hour program held on selected Thursdays that includes crafts, physical activities and games, plus snack. Pre-registration is required for each date. Contact BFR by Tuesday prior to the camp date.

Adventure Camp runs from 9-10:30 a.m. on July 18 (Pajama Party) and Aug. 1 (Disney). Cost for each day is $12 ($8 BFR).

Boys' Super Hero Day

Area you a Schumacher? The  2013 Schumacher family reunion, which includes the descendants of Christian and Barbara Schumacher, takes place on Sunday, Aug. 4. 

The family reunion is held at the Swiss Homestead, 8350 Bixel Road, Bluffton, from 1 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 4. It is could be the largest family reunion in the Bluffton-Pandora community, and represents one of the oldest families who settled here. It is also one of the oldest family  reunions that takes place here.

The 5th annual Rally Point River Ride is Aug. 10, according to Jared Diller.

March has that whole lamb and lion thing going.  What do we get when June temperatures vary by 46 degrees in the month?

According to Pandora weather observer Guy Verhoff, the high temperature for June was 91 degrees (F) on June 25.  The low temperature was 45 degrees on June 4.

June saw precipitation totals of 3.52 inches of rain.  This is slightly below the June normal average of 4.16 inches.

Ten Thousand Villages,  115 S. Main St., Bluffton, offers easy and elegent, hand-carved bamboo barrettes, according to Aphaphanh Nussbaum, store manager.

The bamboo barrettes are $8 each and are handcrafted in Nepal. Artisans at the Champa workshop near Kathmandu carve the bamboo barrettes.
