Sandra J. Urban, 79, of Bluffton, died 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. She was born on Sept. 16, 1934, in Bluffton, to the late Era E. and Max E. (Huffman) Urban.

She was retired from Franklin Office Products. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack G. Urban and her sister, Shirley L. Bowman.

All services will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay. 

The Village of Bluffton’s insurance committee will be meeting Friday, Nov. 8, at 9 a.m. in the Bluffton town hall, according to Nancy Kindle, village fiscal officer.

 

BFR launches fundraising shoe drive to raise funds, support microenterprise in developing nations and help the environment

BFR Sports & Fitness is introducing a used shoe collection drive Nov. 13 through Dec. 15 to raise operating funds while also benefiting microenterprise ventures in developing nations and keeping old shoes out of local landfills. Individuals can help by dropping off used shoes at BFR, 215 Snider Road.

Lisa Kron is the playwright and protagonist of “Well,” which takes a humorous look at issues of health and illness.

Lanelle Augsburger, 76, of Lima, died at 4 p.m. Nov. 3, 2013, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. She was born Aug. 10, 1937, in Ada, Ok., to John and Louise Kuykendall Manahan who preceded her in death. On Jan. 24, 1959, she married Dwain Augsburger and he survives.

She worked at Ex-Cell-O Corp., Bluffton.  She was a member of Rockport United Methodist Church and the Lima Senior Citizens. She was a graduate of Beaverdam High School.

First United Methodist Church, Bluffton, holds its annual election day lunch and dinner in the church Fellowship Hall, 116 Church St., Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Items are individually prices. The menu includes:

• Sandwiches, $2
• Salads, $1
• Desserts, $1.50
• Beverages, 50 cents

Dinner is served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for youth 10 and under. The menu includes:

Mother Nature played a trick on Halloween this year. Rain delayed the door-to-door event from Thursday to Saturday evening.

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce will hold two events open to the public on Friday, Nov. 8. Those events include the monthly chamber breakfast followed by a workshop on human resources.

David Retterer, mayor of Ada, is the guest speaker at the breakfast. He is an associate professor of mathematics and computer science at Ohio Northern University. His wife, Deb, is a pharmacist at Greg's Pharmacy, Bluffton.
