Bluffton's Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn Co., is completing construction on a new store in Maumee’s The Shops at Fallen Timbers, and plans to begin serving its popcorn snacks and gift tins in September.

“Our business was born in northwest Ohio, and The Shops at Fallen Timbers are the perfect family environment for our next step,” said Pete Suter, co-founder and CEO of Shirley’s. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with folks in the Toledo area to create happiness through fundraisers, gifts and anytime snacks.”

Bluffton Public Library announces its Junior Brain Builders fall schedule.

Junior Brain Builders is a fun early learning experience for young children aged 1-3. Each J session lasts for 30-plus minutes and consists of a story, games, songs and building time with construction blocks.

"Our aim is to provide creative activities for the development of social and motor skills in young children," said Esther Birkey, youth services coordinator.

With the 2014 season rapidly approaching, the Bluffton men’s soccer team will rely on its experience and depth as it prepares for another exciting campaign on the pitch. A squad that includes 13 juniors and seniors, the Beavers are primed to leave it all on the field after battling through a 2013 season in which victories struggled to maintain pace with the effort.

In April the Ohio Department of Health conducted its first survey since Willow Ridge opened.

The purpose of these annual surveys is to ensure that the quality of care and the quality of life of the elders is provided for in a “homelike” environment.

Rachel Mary Yoakam, 75, died Aug. 12, 2014, at 10:10 p.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center, LIma. She was born June 29, 1939, in Lima to Carl and Edith Hartman DeVier who preceded her in death. On June 7, 1958, she married Gerald "Jerry" Yoakam and he survives in Lakeview.

She graduated from Bluffton High School. She was a homemaker and member of First Mennonite Church, Bluffton.   

The Lima Rotary Club will announce that at its meeting on Monday, Aug. 18, its scholarship awards will surpass the $500,000 mark. 

The Lima Rotary Club began its scholarship program in 2001 as an economic development opportunity.  Applicants must live or work in Allen County and be attending an accredited institution within Allen County to be eligible for a scholarship. They are generally non-traditional and qualify by need. The goal of the program is to help the students achieve their educational goals, and for them to remain and work in Allen County.
