The Icon applauds Mayor Augsburger’s selection of members to the newly established Shannon Cemetery Commission.

All are members of the village of Bluffton, as this commission should be.

Bluffton’s fireworks, postponed in late June due to the weather, is rescheduled for 9:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Bluffton’s National Night Out celebration at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool.

The fireworks will cap off the National Night Out. The display should last between 20 and 30 minutes.

The National Night Out and fireworks will take place on Snider Road, Bluffton. Watch for a map indicating locations where people can watch the display.

Mayor Judy Augsburger announced appointment of a commission to oversee the Shannon Cemetery during Monday’s Bluffton council meeting.

Members include: John Murray, Evan Skilliter, Fred Rodabaugh, Bob Amstutz, Nathan Ulrey, Samuel Diller, Richard Boehr, Harriett Moyer, Jesse Blackburn, David Steiner and the mayor. Paula Scott, a non-voting member, is the commission recorder.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University Head Coach Denny Dorrel and his staff are hosting a FREE football clinic on Friday, July 24, 2015 for students entering grades 1-8 in the fall.

The first is Steiner and Huser (men's clothing). The second is Balmer's (ladies and children's clothing).

The Bluffton community worship service will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 26, on the Bluffton Presbyterian Church lawn.

Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

In case of inclement weather, the service will be held in the middle school cafetorium.

 

Bluffton University’s 18th annual Alumni and Friends Golf Scramble raised roughly $5,000 for university athletics through TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) Bluffton.

The July 18 event drew 84 golfers to Harrod’s Colonial Golfers Club.

Pandora author, Lloyd Harnishfeger, will talk about his publishing experiences and will have a book signing at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 23, at the Bluffton Public Library. 

A discussion time will follow his presentation. His books may be purchased and signed. 

Harnishfeger is the author of 10 books and numerous periodical articles. For this talk, the author will focus on four of his novels:

Mennonite Memorial Home's Concert on the Lawn, featuring the Lima Area Concert Band, is rescheduled for 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug.15.

The concert was postponed in June due to a weekend of rain. 

The free concert includes free ice cream, popcorn and drinks. All that's needed to attend is to bring your own lawn chair. The concert is on the MMH lawn, 410 W. Elm St., Bluffton.

Over 120 area children are traveling through time to learn about God's love through the Community VBS program this week. 

Bluffton Presbyterian Church is the host church for the Bible Blast to the Past event.  Six other area churches are providing volunteer leadership for Bible story, crafts, mission and service, snacks and a special preschool track.

Sponsoring churches include: English Lutheran Church, Emmanuel UCC, First Mennonite Church, First United Methodist Church, St.John's UCC, St. Mary's Catholic Church and Bluffton Presbyterian Church.
