Ima Jean Badertscher, 93, died June 4, 2016, at 7:05 a.m. at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  Ima Jean was born March 15, 1923, in Hancock County, Ohio, to Gilbert and Carrie (Gallant) Montgomery who preceded him in death. On Oct. 11, 1944 he married Leland Badertscher who survives. 

Ima Jean retired from Triplett Corporation, Bluffton.  She was a member of Riley Creek Baptist Church, Bluffton. She enjoyed camping, spending time with her grandchildren and was a graduate of Mt. Cory High School.

Richard "Dick" Glenn Cole, 80, died June 2, 2016, at 8:36 a.m. at Bluffton Hospital Emergency Room. Richard was born July 24, 1935, in Lima to the late Robert and Elinor (Giberson) Cole. He was married to Carman Cole and she preceded him in death. On April 1, 2005, he married Betty (Crow) Cole who survives. 

Richard retired as a concrete mixer driver from Ernst Concrete, Lima.  

When Bluffton native Denny Edinger starting working for the U.S. Postal Service you could buy a first-class stamp for a quarter and get three cents change.

That was 1986.

Denny, a fixture at the Bluffton post office stamp window, won’t be there tomorrow or Monday. On Friday he retired after 30 years with post office.

After three decades handling patron mail requests, you might guess that Denny can identify you by your street address.

“I see some people and suddenly can’t think of their name, but I know their address,” he said.

Steven J. Yoder, 60, died June 1, 2016, at 2:35 p.m. at the Cleveland Clinic.  Steve was born Oct. 29, 1955 in Marysville, Ohio, to Henry and Lydia (Troyer) Yoder.  On July 31, 1982, he married Janet Jantzi Yoder who survives. 

Yoder was currently a pastor at First Mennonite Church in Bluffton. He served as a pastor in the Mennonite church for 22 years.

He was an active member of the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association and the Bluffton Lions Club. He graduated from Jonathan Alder High School, Prairie Bible Institute, the Ohio State University and Bethany Seminary.

Bluffton High School is this year's Northwest Conference 2015-16 “Don Bachman Award of Excellence” winner for the second time with a number of high finishes in conference standings throughout the year. 

This award recognizes the school in the conference that exhibits the highest level of consistent excellence in conference-sponsored sports and scholastic bowl competition.

Attention golfers:

Leonard Slatkin, Detroit Symphony Orchestra director says, "The role of an orchestra in the 21st century isn't just playing, it's about developing future audiences and performers."

That's what Rachael Lewis, Bluffton school strings teacher is doing this summer - developing future audiences and performers.

She's offering a free summer springs program to Bluffton musicians, as she has for many summers.

The program meets on Wednesdays and is for students wishing to keep up their musical skills in the summer. The strings meet in the elementary strings room.

Richard G. Cole, 80, of Bluffton died June 2, 2016, at Bluffton Hospital Emergency Room. Arrangements are incomplete at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

The Dough Hook, 117 N. Main St., Bluffton, announces next week's fresh meals for a family of four options, according to Marlena Ballinger.

The program includes three meals per week for $49, which comes to $4.08 per person per meal.

Ballinger said that the meal boxes work like this:
After reviewing the menu a week ahead of time, customers may place orders and choose what day the boxes will be picked up.
