Ice cream, exotic animals and tires do mix!

Tom Dotson of Tommy Tires proved it on Friday.

Tommy Tires summer customer appreciation day includes gallons and gallons of four flavors of ice cream – all free for the taking - from Jay Lugibihl.

To top that off a Main Street corral loaded with some of the coolest animals under the sun, begged visitors for carrots. We spotted a couple kangaroos, a turtle the size of a medium-size dog, a camel, goats, and what certainly looked like a mini buffalo.

It's what's happening at BFR in August

Several youth opportunities are available in August at Bluffton Family Recreation, according to Joseph Beagle, director.

Adventure camp – Disney Fun
Adventure Camp II takes place from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 8-9. Its theme is Disney Fun. Cost is $12 for BFR members and $20 non-members. Costs include snacks and supplies.

Here's three views of Buckeye quarry, where swimming was once a Bluffton summer experience. Paul Diller snapped these photos.

The pool was on the east side of the Buckeye. It is included a bath house, baby pool, larger pool going to 5 or 6 feet, and the Buckeye quarry for persons who could pass a swim test. The Buckeye had three diving boards.

The Icon spots this plate frequently around Bluffton. Viewers will see it on a maroon Jeep.

East College Avenue from Main to Albert Street is closed today. The street is being paved.

It endures at Bluffton University with Summer Mud 2017

With the flyer for the original Summer Mud program hanging on the wall of the ceramics studio at Bluffton University and with a former student/protégé leading the way, Gregg Luginbuhl’s long-time passion project came full circle in the summer of 2017 despite his passing in the fall of 2016.

For more than 30 years, the late professor emeritus of art at Bluffton University had led a ceramics class open to the community. This year, his presence permeated the studio during the three week Summer Mud class offered on campus in June.

2017 rate for water is $2.29 per 100 cubic feet

Bluffton council will act on legislation on Monday involving its 2005 water contract with Ottawa.

An ordinance to be considered is an addendum to the 2005 contract. The addendum addresses issues between Bluffton and Ottawa that need clarification.

The legislation states that Bluffton is paid up for all water contracts prior to this year and that Bluffton owes no other money to Ottawa. It continues that both Ottawa and Bluffton agree that no penalties or interest are owed for any prior years.

Don't leave town on Tuesday, Aug. 1 - it's National Night Out

Plans for Bluffton’s biggest night of the summer are being finalized, according to Matt Oglesbee, Bluffton police department lieutenant, in charge of Bluffton’s National Night Out on Tuesday. Aug. 1.

The event includes free food, games for youth, performance by Nashville Crush Trio from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m., and Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
